During 2013 area net release Halloween themed festival with tons of events, collection, and achievements. The name of its theme itself is the Shadow of the Mad King that was released on October 13 to November 3 2013. The festival areas span to outside areas, including the Queensdlae, Plains of Ashford, Wayfarer foothills, Metrica province, and Caledon forest.
During this time, you can try the Mad Maleficence achievement collection. It has been rereleased during 2020 Halloween events, and most likely will be the same in the future years. The said collection itself is introduced during the 2018 Shadow of the mad king, which is considered as the continuation series from the Halloween 2012. Without further information here is the GW 2 Mad Maleficence guide.
About The Collection
To unlock this collection, first go to Veteran Brigadier General Kernel in Lion’s Arch Fort Marriner area. Make sure you have done Long Live the Lich living world episode (Season 4, episode 3). Talk to him about Joko to unlock the collection.
You need to finish the said episode since the story of this collection is related to Joko and Thorn. It is about Tracking down trophies of the eternal feud between Mad King Thorn and Palawa Joko during Halloween, when the Mad Realm draws near. It is also worth noting that you will need the Rivalry of Kings, which you can find by defeating Veteran Brigadier General Kernel.
GW 2 Mad Maleficence Guide
1. Joko’s Crown (Replica) – Crystal Oasis
The hint: “Infiltrating Joko’s palace, I stole off with his prized crown! (It’s definitely not from a street vendor in Amnoon.)”
This one is pretty straight forward. While the hint can be misleading, but you only need to purchase the replica. You can purchase it from an Awakened Merchant just outside the Casino in Crystal Oasis for 1 Candy Corn Cob.
2. Awakened Officer’s Service Medallion
The hint: “I took this spoil of war from a mighty Awakened champion.”
Once again this part is particularly straightforward. You can get this item from Palawan Phylactery bags which drop off any Awakened Champions.
The best place for Awakened champions is usually the Domain of Instan meta – Great Hall/Palawan. You can go to the location that has the red circle in the picture.
3. Mummy Wrap Field Kit
The Hint: “Brazenly looting a Treasure Hunting Kit from Joko’s minions, I dug up these supplies in Elona.”
Go to any of the Crystal Desert maps (i.e. Crystal Oasis/Desert Highlands etc) and start using those Treasure Hunting Kits you have in your inventory from doing events/looting chests. Using the special action key to locate these Buried Treasures and open them up to receive the kit. Don’t forget that these kits will highlight the area on the map you will need to search.
You can buy the buried treasure kit from Priory Historian Elisa vendor in Elon Riverside, The Desolation, Domain Of Vabbi, Desert Highlands, or Crystal Oasis for 77 karma and 1 ley infused sand.
4. Journey of a Youth – Mad King’s Labyrinth
The hint: “A mad spirit arriving in the Labyrinth brought this prize on its journey.”
All you need to do is to speak to the Mad Spirit in the labyrinth maze. You can got to the very north of the Mad King’s Labyrinth and then talk to this Mad Spirit. Worth noting that his location is up high, so it is best to use griffon/glide from the waypoint. In case you don’t have the mount, you can use a springer or raptor equipped with canyon jump.
5. Ancient Awakened Soldier’s Ring – Mad King’s Labyrinth
The hint: “At the edges of the Mad King’s Labyrinth, I unearthed this token from Joko’s last defeat.”
The exact location is on a landmass southwest of the northwest Labyrinth waypoint. This waypoint is accessible via Bloody Prince doors across Tyria, or by gliding or flying over from the other waypoint via a griffon. You may need a griffon to get to an object called lost belongings.
Found in Lost Belongs just SW of the NW waypoint in Mad King’s Labyrinth. This one is tricky because Mad King loves to teleport you when you get near that place so it is to fly really fast to it using a griffon from the waypoint and just click F as fast as possible on the item. It is above the waypoint in the air on a floating island in the air.
6. Draft of a Love Letter (Page 2) – Mad King’s Labyrinth
The hint: “While inspecting the fortifications of the Labyrinth, I found this left behind.”
Southeast corner of the Labyrinth, up on the land mass just northeast of where the Legendary Skeletal Lich spawns. Easiest to just griffon from the NE waypoint.
7. Chariot Reins – Mad King’s Raceway
The hint: “After I beat Joko’s record lap time on the King’s Raceway, he left this in shame.”
In Mad King’s Raceway, south of Waypoint, in a mausoleum on a hill. Talk to the Lunatic Boatmaster inside Mad King’s Labyrinth to get access to the Raceway and then you will find the item in a Lost Belongings just south of the WP.
8. Joko’s Book Club Sections – Mad King’s Raceway
The hint: “I found this while patrolling the King’s Raceway for spies.”
Also inside the Raceway, just SW of the waypoint right in the small mausoleum.
9. Book of Palawa Poetry – 1st Draft – Domain of Kourna – [&BFYLAAA=]
The hint: “On a jail break from the Fortress of Gandara, I took a moment to loot this.”
Take the mesmer portal west of Allied Encampment Waypoint — [&BFcLAAA=] to jump to the Bokoss Prison Ruins island. The book is within an Abandoned Lockbox near the top of the ruined building at the point of interest. Right near the Bokoss Prison Ruins POI in Domain of Kourna – [&BFYLAAA=]. Use springer to reach. Loot the Abandoned Lockbox for the item.
10. The Scourge of Vabbi’s To-Do List – Domain of Vabbi – [&BD0KAAA=]
The hint: “I stole this from a tower in Joko’s Garden of Seborhin using a hidden portal.”
Take the jackal portal at Seborhin Circle POI – [&BD0KAAA=] to get teleported inside the Vista room in Garden of Seborhin in Domain of Vabbi. Loot the Abandoned Lockbox inside.
11. Aphorisms of Joko, the Eternal Monarch of All – Domain of Vabbi – [&BJsKAAA=]
The hint: “From atop a crumbling statue of the lich in Vabbi, I took this secret tome.”
It is pretty easy to find it. it is right on top of the Great Palawa Joko Monument POI – [&BJsKAAA=] in Domain of Vabbi. You can use griffon or springer to jump high enough and reach the location.
12. A Treatise on the Veridical – Elon Riverlands – [&BJkKAAA=]
The hint: “In the Elon Riverlands, I ironically stole this from a monument to Joko’s triumphs.”
In an Abandoned Lockbox under the Joko Statue’s Foot right by Triumph of Palaway Joko POI/Statue in Elon Riverlands – [&BJkKAAA=].
13. The Diary of Palawa Ignacious Joko – The Desolation – [&BFQKAAA=]
The hint: “Using a hidden key, I infiltrated Joko’s Forbidden Vault in the Desolation and returned with this trophy.”
Inside the Forbidden Vault in The Desolation. This area is normally closed off and requires an event from Lair of the Forgotten – Help Burran investigate the mysterious gate. The Abandoned Lockbox is on the second floor of the vault once you get in.
Finishing and Reward
Once you finish the collection, go back to Veteran Brigadier General Kernel in Lion’s Arch and talk to him again to get the Close the Floodgates of Death achievement which comes with a Mini Pumpkin Jack.
That is all about the GW 2 Mad Maleficence collection. It is safe to say that the progress is rather easy and straightforward. Thus, you can easily get the items around the area. One thing for sure, it will be easier if you have a griffon mount to reach some high areas. But for another alternative, you can try using springer or raptor. Hopefully it can help.
